MANILA, Philippines — Biking has been declared an essential mode of transportation in Pasig City amid the suspension of mass transportation services due to the ongoing Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine and the coronavirus crisis.
The Pasig City Transportation Department announced on Twitter on Tuesday that through Executive Order 18 series of 2020, biking is an essential mode of transportation in the city.
“Taking the lead in formally declaring biking as essential – not a mere alternative form of transportation, the City Government of Pasig has issued an Executive Order and a Resolution,” read the statement.

Under the order, the local government will allow bicycle supply and repair shops to operate during the quarantine period.
“Bicycle shops can open. Businesses in the city which are primarily engaged in the repair and maintenance of bicycles including vulcanizing as well as sale of essential bicycle parts and accessories shall be classified as essential business and shall be allowed to operate,” read the statement.
Pasig City departments were also ordered to identify key locations of repair shops and upgrade bicycle lanes in the city.
