TACLOBAN CITY – A 59-year-old man from Hernani town, Eastern Samar died in a hospital in Manila on March 29 of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Department of Health office in Eastern Visayas (DOH) made the clarification after reports came out that the man died in a hospital in the region.
Dr. Minerva Molon, DOH regional director, said the patient was a 59-year-old man who had been admitted to one of the hospitals in Metro Manila. He was from Hernani town and died last March 29, Molon said in a statement.
Molon said the patient last visited his hometown in May 2019.
The DOH said contact tracing had been done and no one among those who had contact with the patient were showing symptoms of COVID-19.
Eastern Samar currently has 102 persons under investigation, or those with symptoms, and 4,226 persons under monitoring, or those who have no symptoms but have traveled to infected places or came into contact with carriers.
