50 inmates isolated for jailbreak at height of COVID-19 lockdown in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS – Administrators of the Bulacan Provincial Jail isolated 50 inmates for their alleged participation in an April 2 jailbreak during the Luzon COVID-19 quarantine.

Leaders of Cell No. 17 and other inmates are under investigation for the escape of Caloocan City resident Jeffrey Cervano and Aries Camayo from Calumpit town last week, said Bulacan Provincial Jail Warden Marcos Rivero.

The two fugitives fled through a window they shattered on the second floor of prison building. They are now being hunted.

Rivero said the escape could be a prelude to more jailbreaks.

“They seem prepared for action and have been planning the escape for sometime now,” he told Inquirer on Monday (Apr. 6).
