TACLOBAN CITY—The Leyte Provincial Board has passed separate resolutions asking Cebu local officials to help people of Leyte, who are stranded in Cebu because of travel restrictions for COVID-19.
The board appealed to Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella provide needed help to people of Leyte who are still in Cebu.
The Leyte provincial board, however, said it has no idea how many people from Leyte are still stranded in Cebu.
According to the Leyte board resolutions, some people from Leyte had found work in Cebu and now needed help from the Cebu government.
Because they are not in Leyte, the stranded people of Leyte could not benefit from assistance being given by the Leyte provincial government.
The resolutions asked Cebu officials to provide food, medicines, shelter and other needs to the stranded people of Leyte for humanitarian reasons.
The Leyte provincial board also asked that the stranded people be allowed to return to their home province in accordance with health protocol and only if the situation would allow.
