MANILA, Philippines — In a bid to help the funding of the government’s battle with the coronavirus disease crisis, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said senators have already donated more than just their monthly pay.

“The Senators have been donating more than just their salaries since day one but never published it!” Sotto wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

Sotto’s statement came just a day after House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano announced in a virtual presser that over 200 lawmakers will donate their full one month salary to aid the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from Cayetano, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said most Cabinet members also offered to donate 75 percent of their salary.

To date, the Philippine health department documented 3,094 cases of COVID-19 in the country with 144 deaths and 57 recoveries.
