MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-nine more people in the country have died from COVID-19 as the number of confirmed cases soared past 3,000 on Friday.
The latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) revealed that 3,018 individuals in the country now have COVID-19, higher by 385 cases from Thursday’s record.
Meanwhile, a total of 136 people in the country have now succumbed to the highly contagious respiratory disease. On the other hand, one more COVID-19 positive person was able to recover bringing the total tally of recovered persons in the country to 52, also as of Friday.
According to the Johns Hopkins University dashboard, the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 has infected over one million people globally and claimed the lives of over 52,000 individuals as of April 2. Meanwhile, more than 200,000 were able to recover from the illness.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clears up in two to three weeks. For some, especially in older adults and people with existing health problems, the virus can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
