Calabarzon cases climb to 289

SAN PEDRO CITY –– The number of people infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has climbed to 289, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Of this number, 33 had died, while nine people have recovered from the disease.

Rizal, which is close to Metro Manila, has 124 cases as of the April 2 bulletin of the regional DOH.

In Antipolo City alone, 44 people were infected, out of which seven had died.

A high number of cases in Rizal was also traced to Cainta with 33 and five deaths, Taytay with 16 and two deaths, and San Mateo with 11 and one death.

In Cavite, Governor Jonvic Remulla announced on Friday that the province would begin its “community testing” next week, although the specifics were still being ironed out.

He said cities and municipalities were set to open their quarantine stations.

This as Cavite’s cases increased to 53, of which nine had died.

A high number of cases were traced to the cities of Bacoor with 16, Dasmariñas with eight, and Imus with six.

In Laguna, 63 people contracted the viral disease, with five having died. The majority of the cases were in the cities of San Pedro, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, and Calamba City.

In Batangas, the number of cases rose to 38, the majority of them recorded in the cities of Batangas and Lipa. Four patients from Batangas had died.

In Quezon, 11 cases were recorded, the majority of them in Lucena City.
