PNP’s Highway Patrol Group has sole authority to inspect deliveries of basic goods

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (PNP – HPG) has been tapped to inspect and supervise dedicated control points (DCPs) along key provincial roads to ensure the unhampered shipment of basic goods and cargo during the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

In a statement on Friday, the Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield (JTF CV Shield), enforcer of Inter-Agency Task Force protocols, said the HPG personnel’s supervision at DCPs will prevent delays in the delivery of basic goods.

“To further facilitate the unhampered and unimpeded movement of cargoes, only HPG teams shall be conducting an inspection of cargo vehicles with the establishment of Dedicated Control Points in Provincial Boundaries along National Highways,” read the statement.

JTF CV Shield also noted that all delivery trucks, vans and passenger jeepneys carrying basic goods are exempted from quarantine control points manned by local police as HPG elements are assigned to oversee cargo movement.

The HPG also launched a hotline – 0926-2255474- for complaints pertaining to cargo deliveries.

This development came after the PNP received reports that delivery trucks carrying essential goods are being blocked and held at some barangay checkpoints.
