DAVAO CITY — The number of COVID-19 cases in the Davao region has risen to 48.
In an announcement by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday (March 30), officials confirmed that the number of infections has reached 48 from just six at the weekend.
The highest number of confirmed cases was reported in Davao City where tests on 40 patients yielded results showing they’re positive for COVID-19.
Of 40 cases in Davao City, at least four had been reported to have died. Four others had recovered.
Health officials recorded three confirmed cases in Davao del Norte, two in Davao del Sur, two in Davao Oriental, and one in Davao de Oro.
A patient, branded as PH130 from Pantukan town, Davao de Oro, was the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the region and first to have recovered.
It is still unclear why the number of confirmed cases in the region surged dramatically but local sources said it was the results of more tests being conducted.
The Southern Philippines Medical Center can now use its own lab and testing facilities after it was certified for independent COVID-19 testing by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
The region is on a lockdown with all inbound sea, air and land travels prohibited.
