Group says 12 doctors die of COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines Inc. (PHAPI) on Sunday bared that 12 doctors have died because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“[Ang] lastest count po namin po is labingdalawang doctor na po ang namatay, (The latest count we have is that 12 doctors have died)” PHAPI president Dr. Rustico Jimenez said in an interview over radio station DZBB.

Jimenez added that they have yet to find out the names of the doctors that were the latest to die of the contagious disease.

Recently, a pathologist in Cebu City died of the disease and was the second fatality in the city.

Meanwhile, Jimenez previously said that nine doctors have died of the disease. The ninth fatality was Dr. Sally Gatchalian, president of the Philippine Pediatric Society.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country on Sunday soared to 1,418, of these 71 died while 48 have recovered.
