Taytay, Rizal mayor tests positive for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Taytay, Rizal Mayor Joric Gacula on Sunday revealed that he tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Ngayon pong araw ng Linggo, natanggap ko po ang email na ako po ay COVID-19 positive, (This Sunday, I received the email that said I am COVID-19 positive),” Gacula announced in a video posted on Facebook.

Gacula said he first had symptoms Tuesday morning such as an itchy throat, chills, and a slight fever.

After consulting with a family doctor, he was advised to undergo self-quarantine.

“Ayon po sa doktor ko, ako po ay nabibilang sa mga mild case ng COVID-19 (According to my doctor, I am one of the mild cases of COVID-19),” he stated.

And despite being under quarantine, Gacula said he will still continue working.

As of Sunday,  COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 1,418, with 71 deaths and 48 recoveries.
