Navotas records first coronavirus case

MANILA, Philippines — Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco confirmed on Saturday that the city has recorded its first new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case, a patient under investigation (PUI) who died recently.

“This is a case of local transmission. It means that the patient did not have a travel history, the patient was in Navotas,” Tiangco said in a Facebook video post.

Five PUIs from the city died recently. One tested negative, while the test results of the three others are not yet available.

Tiangco warned of the possible surge in the number of PUIs as the COVID-19 case resided in a densely populated area in the city where some residents refuse to follow lockdown rules. The patient died on March 25 but was only confirmed positive on Saturday.
