Makati gives solo parents hit by Luzon quarantine P1K cash aid, food packs

MANILA, Philippines — Over 2,000 solo parents in Makati City will get P1,000 in cash aid and food packs as their livelihoods are displaced by the enhanced community quarantine now being enforced in Luzon, the city government said Saturday.

In a statement, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said there are 788 registered solo parents in the city’s District 1 and 1,261 registered solo parents in District 2.

“Solo parents also need help from the government during this crisis. We are also providing them financial assistance to augment the resources we have made available initially, such as food packs for those whose children are enrolled in our public schools,” Binay said.

Binay said the financial assistance and food packs are being delivered by city government personnel to the houses of the solo parents. To get the assistance, the recipients need only to present their Solo Parent IDs.

Aside from solo parents, the local government is also distributing P2,000 cash assistance to thousands of Makati City jeepney drivers and tricycle drivers whose livelihood was also disrupted by the Luzon-wide quarantine.
