Manila records 8 new coronavirus cases

MANILA, Philippines — Eight more people have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Manila, bringing the total count to 44.

Data from the Manila Public Information Office on Friday also showed that the number of fatalities due to the respiratory disease remained at four.

Also, the Manila government reported 3 new persons under investigation (PUIs), bringing the total number to 171.

The number of recovered patients still remained at two, the local government said.

The outbreak of coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 emerged in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late last year.

The coronavirus can cause mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people infected but it can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for older adults and those with existing health conditions.
