CITY OF CALAPAN –– The municipal health officer in Sablayan announced via live Facebook streaming on Friday afternoon that a patient in the town has become the first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Occidental Mindoro.

Dr. Enid Asuncion, San Jose municipal health officer, and incident commander, reported that a patient under investigation (PUI), an 84-year-old man, died at San Jose District Hospital on March 22, on the same day that he was brought there.

The patient was identified as PUI No. 76.

Asuncion said test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine done on samples taken from the deceased patient showed him to be COVID-19 positive.
