A 95-year-old grandmother has become the oldest woman to recover from COVID-19 in Italy, a most welcome news for one of the pandemic’s hardest-hit countries.
Alma Clara Corsini is also the first person to recover from the disease in the northern province of Modena, as per Gazetta Di Modena via Metro on March 22.
The 95-year-old, who was admitted to a hospital in Pavulo Nel Frignano on March 5, recovered without “antiviral therapy.” She has now been discharged and returned to her home.
Italian politician and European Parliament Vice President Fabio Massimo Castaldo took to Twitter to share the good news on March 21.

The grandmother can be seen giving a thumbs up along with other hospital staff as she lies on a bed. Corsini said they “were good people who looked after me well.”
Prior to Corsini, a 97-year-old man was also able to recover from COVID-19 and is believed to be the oldest person to have done so in Italy, according to the report.
With 7,503 deaths, Italy currently posts the highest number of fatalities caused by the novel coronavirus, more than double the deaths in China, where the pandemic started. The country has 74,386 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Ian Biong/JB
