Ilocos Sur village on lockdown as bus driver hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms

VIGAN CITY –– A bus driver in Ilocos Sur province was suspected to have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), prompting officials to lock down Barangay San Vicente in Magsingal town where he resides.

Test results have not been released yet, but the 34-year-old driver of the Maria de Leon Bus Line has been confined at the Ilocos Sur Provincial Hospital here.

His condition has triggered tighter quarantine measures all over Ilocos Sur starting Tuesday, said Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Singson during a March 23 press briefing.

Officially, Ilocos Sur has no confirmed case of COVID-19 based on the province’s COVID-19 tracker as of 10 a.m. on Thursday. The province records seven patients under investigation and 12,157 persons under monitoring .

Twenty-nine of the 35 people who attended a wake in Quirino province have returned to their homes in Candon City and Narvacan town, both in Ilocos Sur, on Wednesday to undergo home quarantine.
