MANILA, Philippines — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has streamlined its operations as it concentrates the remaining flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 as some carriers have been forced to suspend flights due to the increasing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country.
“As more and more air carriers suspend operations due to COVID-19, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is streamlining its operations concentrating remaining flights in just one terminal,” the airport agency said in a statement on Thursday.
According to MIAA, the following airlines will be operating to and from the NAIA Terminal 1 starting March 28, 2020:
Gulf Air
Korean Airlines
Asiana Airlines
China Airlines
Hong Kong Air
Eva Air
Japan Airlines
Jeju Air
All Nippon Airways
Cathay Pacific
Qatar Airways
Singapore Airlines
Royal Brunei
MIAA said Oman Air has stopped operations while Singapore Airlines and Royal Brunei have announced that it will be suspending flights to and from Manila starting March 29, 2020.
MIAA also recorded a decline in the number of “landings and take-offs” from the usual 768 flight movements per day to 50 movements after air carriers suspended international flight operations.
MIAA added that it will also reduce cost on its utilities by closing down NAIA Terminals 2, 3 and 4.
MIAA however, will keep operations at NAIA Terminal 2 for sweeper flights and repatriation flights to aid foreign nationals in returning to their respective countries.
To date, MIAA said the following airlines have stopped operating international flights: Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Qantas Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates Airlines, KLM, Air China, Air New Guinea, China Eastern, China Southern, Ethiopian Airlines, Jet Star Asia, Kuwait Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Saudia Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, Thai Airways, Tiger Airways, and Xiamen Airlines.
Previously, flag carrier Philippine Airlines announced that it will stop its international flights from March 26 up to April 14, 2020, because more countries have imposed strict travel bans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
