Shut down Clark airport, Pampanga cities, town urge

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – To contain the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the legislative councils of Porac town and the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat in Pampanga province urged President Duterte to temporarily shut down the Clark International Airport (CRK) operating inside the Clark Freeport.

In a joint resolution, the councils sought CRK’s closure “while the spread of COVID-19 in the country continues.”

Responding to the resolution, Lipad, a private consortium that operates CRK, said it shall “abide by any order given to us by our government.”

Domestic flights to and from CRK have ceased since last week.

On Thursday (March 26), Korean Air and Qatar Airways were expected to fly in and out of Incheon and Doha. Korean Air’s last flight will be on Saturday (March 28).

Only Qatar Airways would make overseas flights to and from Clark starting March 29, said Teri Flores, Lipad corporate communications officer.
