TACLOBAN CITY –– One of the country’s oldest live reenactments of the passion and death of Jesus Christ in Palo town, Leyte province was canceled to avoid public gathering amid the coronavirus disease COVID-19 pandemic.

“I just felt sad that we will be missing this annual Lenten sacrifice. This has already become a tradition in the parish for 45 years but there is a very strong reason to cancel it,” said Mabel Moron-Sevilla, stage director of the event held every year at the grounds of the Palo Cathedral.

The Lenten presentation, known in Waray as “Pamalandong,” is considered Eastern Visayas’ most known reenactment on the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

The Palo municipal government has three patients under investigation for the COVID-19 and 492 persons under monitoring.
