MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator Bongbong Marcos took to social media on Thursday to show “proof of life,” following reports of his poor health after a trip to Spain.
In his Facebook and Twitter accounts, the former lawmaker posted a somewhat emaciated picture of him in bed holding what appears to be Thursday’s issue of a broadsheet.
Social media circles were abuzz since Wednesday night of Marcos’ supposed severe illness that he had to be airlifted to Singapore for treatment. Marcos, however, made no reference to these claims.
In a separate statement to the media, Marcos insisted that he is “feeling much better” and is “getting stronger by the day,” while on self-quarantine.
“I have no doubt in my mind that this is partly due to the excellent work of the nurses and doctors who helped me during this time,” he said.
No less than his sister, Sen. Imee Marcos confirmed that his younger brother was “unwell” upon his arrival from a recent trip to Spain, and that they have all already took a test for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“As my sister said, I was feeling under the weather and as a result went to get checked. We are still waiting for the results,” Marcos said.
“I am deeply touched and overwhelmed by your concern over my condition. Don’t worry I am doing ok and contrary to popular belief, I am on home on self-quarantine,” he added.
