PNP records 709 PUMs, 79 PUIs from its ranks — Banac

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded 709 persons under monitoring (PUMs) and 61 persons under investigation (PUIs) for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from within its ranks as the country continues to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.

With this, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the national police force will intensify health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the PNP.

“We are instituting strict measures to prevent its spread among our back end and front line personnel, such as the provision of minimum Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all frontline personnel; continuous contact tracing and self-quarantine; stringent social distancing including maximum use of teleconferencing of key leaders,” Banac said in a statement on Wednesday.

Also, the PNP Health Service previously recorded two cases of the coronavirus disease which involved a policeman assigned in Metro Manila and another police officer assigned in Laguna.

During the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, members of the country’s police force are tasked to man the quarantine checkpoints to ensure that only the transport of essential goods and essential workers will enter and exit Luzon.
