Another congressman has COVID-19; infected congressmen now 2 — Albano

MANILA, Philippines — Another congressman has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Isabela Rep. Antonio Albano said Thursday.

In a Facebook post, Albano said there are now two House lawmakers who have been infected by the coronavirus.

“We bravely went to work and 2 of our congressmen are now positive with Covid-19, 2 congressional staff have died, many more are PUIs and PUMs,” Albano said.

Albano did not disclose the identity of the second solon infected with COVID-19.

The solon made the announcement after ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Yap Go earlier confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Yap was among the lawmakers who attended a special session at the House of Representatives to discuss the measure granting President Rodrigo Duterte additional powers to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

Albano said he worked “closely” with Yap, adding that he will place himself under self-quarantine.

“I have to go into serious self-isolation again for 14 days!” Albano said.

“Cong Eric and I worked closely together to fix and amend this bill with everyone else. I practiced social distancing with everyone there, but I had my mask off at times when we were all eating and working,” he added.

A congressional staff member and an employee working for the House’s Printing Service previously succumbed to COVID-19.
