Fil-Am group to join Suroy Heritage trail

A FIL-AMERICAN contingent from Las Vegas, Nevada is scheduled to join the Capitol’s Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo Southern Heritage Trail on Jan. 18 to 20.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the Las Vegas contingent which had joined them after Cebu City’s Sinulog festivity has grown bigger every year. She said reservations have already reached 150.

Last year, these balikbayans were taken to Cebu’s northern part. An added attraction is the whale shark watching in Oslob town, though Garcia said she still has to work out the details with local officials.

The Philippine Bisayan Society of Nevada claimed to have helped promote Cebu in Las Vegas by marketing the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo in Las Vegas for free.

Marian Kimseng Pearson, the group president, said she suggested to Governor Garcia to hold the Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo after the Sinulog festivitiy in last year’s northern escapade.

Garcia’s chief of staff, Elizabeth Francia told Cebu Daily News that they could  accommodate 300 people for the southern trail.

She said an association of medical professionals expressed interest to join the tour. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
