MANILA, Philippines – Celebrity philanthropist Angel Locsin has admitted that she regrets campaigning for Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III — calling it a “mortal sin” — as reports come out about the senator’s violation of his home quarantine regulation.

Locsin’s remark on Wednesday night came after people on Twitter told her that people voted for Pimentel because she supported his past senatorial bid.  Netizens asked the actress, who has criticized Pimentel’s actions, if she did not regret campaigning for the senator.

The celebrity also appeared to show disdain for old photos of her appearing in a television advertisement with Pimentel.

“Yes. Super. Mortal sin. Patawarin nyo po ako bilang ex husband po sya ng pinsan ko,” Locsin said, referring to her decision to help Pimentel.

Pimentel is currently drawing flak for accompanying his pregnant wife Kathryna Yu-Pimentel to the Makati Medical Center despite him being under a home quarantine due to possible exposure to COVID-19.

Eventually the PDP-Laban member was made aware of his COVID-19 test results.  The management of the Makati Medical Center slammed Pimentel for his irresponsible actions, as he might have endangered the hospital’s thinning medical staff by exposing them to the latest coronavirus strain.

However, Locsin clarified that she did not campaign for Pimentel in the recent elections.

“Naka-ilang eleksyon na rin naman pong hindi naulit,” she answered when netizens prodded her not to do it again.

Pimentel is the second senator, after Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, to test positive for COVID-19.  Other ranking government officials who contracted the dreaded coronavirus disease include House appropriations committee chair Rep. Eric Yap and Rizal Gov. Rebecca “Nini” Ynares.

As of Wednesday, Luzon remained under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

According to health officials, as of this writing, 636 people have been infected in the Philippines, of whom 38 have died and 26 have recovered.

Around the world, over 416,000 COVID-19 cases have been recorded, of whom 18,507 have died and 101,090  have recovered.
