Go opts for quarantine after contact with lawmaker with COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go will go on self-quarantine after being in direct contact with a lawmaker who tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Go said that his staff would do contact tracing of other people who might also have been in direct contact 22ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Yap.
“It is unfortunate that Cong. Eric Yap has tested positive for COVID-19. We are currently initiating contact tracing, particularly those present during a meeting I attended last Saturday,” Go said.
He noted that he had not felt any symptoms of the latest coronavirus strain.
“But since protocol requires that those who were directly exposed to persons positive for COVID-19 need to undergo self-quarantine, I am left with no choice but to comply,” he added.
Earlier, Yap confirmed that he had COVID-19, days after he attended several meetings to discuss the Bayanihan Bill of 2020. He was also present during the special session last Monday.

As of now, two senators — Juan Miguel Zubiri and Aquilino Pimentel III — have turned out positive for COVID-19. Pimentel recently drew flak for leaving his house to take his pregnant wife to the Makati Medical Center even if he was considered a patient under investigation awaiting the COVID-19 test results.

As of Wednesday, Luzon remained under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the rising number COVID-19 cases.
According to health officials, as of this writing, there are already 636 patients have been infected with COVID-19, of whom 38 have died and 26 have recovered.
Around the world, over 416,000 COVID-19 cases have been recorded, of whom 18,507 have died and 101,090 have recovered.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus that first emerged in Wuhan City in Hubei province in China in late 2019.
The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.
The coronavirus is a family of viruses with surfaces having a crown-like appearance. The viruses are named for the spikes on their surfaces.
