Catanduanes town gives 1 sack rice per family

LEGAZPI CITY –– The local government of Viga in Catanduanes has started the distribution of one sack of rice per family to keep residents inside their homes during the enhanced community quarantine period due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Edsel Tuquero, assistant of Mayor Emeterio Tarin, said all households in 31 villages would receive one sack of rice to support them while under home quarantine.

On Wednesday, Tarin distributed the relief goods to more than 400 households in remote Barangay P. Vera Summit.

The families of persons under investigation and monitoring, and the tricycle and van drivers were given separate food packs with canned goods, noodles, and other basic needs, aside from the sack of rice.

“One of its objectives is to make sure that residents have a standby supply and avoid going out of their houses,” Tuquero said.

The local government also encouraged local rice farmers to sell their products to augment their supply.
