Calapan orders liquor ban for physical distancing

CITY OF CALAPAN –– A temporary liquor ban was implemented to comply with the enhanced community quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city.

Mayor Arnan Panaligan said the executive order, was to enforce “social distancing and protect public health.”

The order stated that selling and drinking of alcoholic drinks in establishments like supermarkets, groceries, sari-sari stores, hotel, resorts, and eateries were prohibited.

Drinking alcoholic beverages might weaken one’s resistance, which is needed to fight COVID-19, the EO added.

The mayor encouraged residents to buy food, instead of alcoholic beverages.

In this crisis and abnormal situation, follow the unusual regulations of the government for public safety, appealed Panaligan.
