Man nabbed for hitting ʻtanodʼ enforcing lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — An irate man has been arrested in Pasay City after he punched a barangay “tanod” (watchman) who had asked him if he was a resident of the area.

A report submitted to the Southern Police District said that Christian Philip Jose, 27, a ramp agent from Nueva Ecija province, punched Victor Mendoza, 69, repeatedly in front of the barangay hall in Barangay 183 Villamor on Monday.

The victim was enforcing community quarantine measures at that time. Jose, however, got irked and went “wild with no apparent reason and with intent to harm,” the police report said.

He was arrested and remains detained at the custodial facility of the city police. He faces charges of physical injury, direct assault, resistance, alarm and scandal, and disobedience to a person in authority.
