Calabarzon COVID-19 cases surpass 50

SAN PEDRO CITY –– At least 50 people in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) were infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), data from the regional Department of Health (DOH) and local health offices said on Tuesday.

The DOH said that as of 5 p.m. Monday, the province of Rizal recorded 21 cases, the highest so far in the region.

Three of the patients from Cainta town had died, while one recovered from the fast-spreading disease.

Cainta has 11 cases; Antipolo City, 6; Taytay, 3; and San Mateo 1.

In Cavite, the DOH said 13 people were infected: Bacoor City, 3 (one dead); Dasmariñas City, 2; Naic, 2; and one case each from Imus City, Gen. Trias City, Silang, Tanza, and Rosario.

Health authorities were still confirming the exact residence of one Cavite patient.

In Quezon, two cases were recorded in Lucena City and one in Sariaya.

In Batangas, new cases were traced to the province with the total number at 10, the provincial health officials said.

As of March 23, the provincial government said there were four from Batangas City (one of them had died, while another one recovered); two from Nasugbu, and one case each from Lemery and the cities of Sto. Tomas City, Tanauan, and Lipa.

In Laguna, a patient from Cabuyao City had died, the DOH said.

New cases of infection were recorded in Sta. Rosa City, which now has six, its city information office said Tuesday.

A 58-year-old resident of Barangay San Francisco in Biñan City tested positive for the virus, the mayor of Biñan said.
