MANILA, Philippines— Motorcycle-ride hailing firm Angkas has ventured into the food delivery service as a means to help its riders make a living while the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine is in place.
Angkas introduced Angkas Food, offering door-to-door delivery of food from its several partner restaurants.
While admitting that delivering food is not its expertise, Angkas said the venture is aimed at helping riders earn while catering to the needs of the people staying at home.
“Sinimulan namin ang service na ‘to para makatulong sa Angkas bikers at para sa atin na kailangan ng food delivery sa gitna ng quarantine,” Angkas said in its Facebook page on Monday.
(We initiated this service to help our Angkas bikers and for us who need food delivery amid the quarantine.)
“Wala kaming commission na kukunin dito, lahat ito ay para sa mga Angkas biker,” it noted
(We will not take commissions. All of this is for the Angkas bikers.)
Angkas said the service is available from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
To practice social distancing, a “no-touch interaction” will be implemented. Angkas said the biker will place the items on the seat of the motorcycle or on the doorstep while the customer picks up their delivery.
Angkas’ transport service was among the mass transportation suspended after the government imposed an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.
This is to limit the public’s movement while the government addresses the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat in the country.
