Pisay alumni raising funds for front-liners

Former students of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Manila are accepting commissioned artworks and logo designs to raise funds for face masks and other protective equipment for health workers attending to novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients.Dea Amparado, 19, one of the organizers, said PSHS-Manila Batch 2019 Council launched the “COVID-19 Fundraiser: Donate for Commissioned Art” in collaboration with other artists in their batch.Portraits and simple sketches cost $5 (around P258) with shading from head to bust while full body portraits go for $15 (around P774). Minimalist logo designs start at $8 (around P413).

Amparado, a first-year student at Smith College in the United States, said proceeds would go to the University of the Philippines (UP)-Philippine General Hospital and Caritas Foundation.

Money raised so far

As of Sunday, the group managed by Amparado, Julianne Negre of Marquette University, and Alyssa Guevara, an Intarmed scholar from UP-Manila, announced on its Facebook page that it had already collected P44,700 out of the P100,000 targeted cash donations. The group is accepting both peso and dollar donations.Amparado said some of the donations were in dollars since most of the artists and contributors study in the United States and wanted to spread awareness about the fundraiser.
