MANILA, Philippines – The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted outside of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has a small chance of turning into a tropical depression or a typhoon, the state weather bureau said on Monday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the LPA was last spotted 1,600 kilometers east of Mindanao.
But while the LPA still has no direct effect on the country’s weather systems, it is expected to bring rains to the eastern side of Mindanao by Thursday or Friday.
“At batay po sa ating analysis ay maliit po ang tsansa na mag-develop po ito into a tropical depression at sa kasalukuyan, wala po itong direktang epekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” weather specialist Sheilla Reyes said during Monday afternoon’s weather forecast.
“Subalit inaasahan po natin na sa darating na Thursday or Friday ay posibleng magdulot po ito, itong trough ng low pressure area, ng mga pag-ulan dito po sa silangang bahagi ng Mindanao particular nga sa may Caraga at Davao region, kaya advise po natin sa ating mga kababayan lalong lalo na po sa mga nabanggit na areas na mag-antabay po sa updates na ipinapalabas ng Pagasa,” she added.
For the rest of the country, generally fair and somewhat cloudy weather is expected for the next 24 hours and the coming days although hot temperatures may continue, especially since easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific region prevail.
In Metro Manila, Olongapo and Lipa City, temperatures are expected to range from 23 to 34 degrees Celsius, while Baguio City temperatures are getting warmer with the northeast monsoon leaving, ranging between 16 to 26 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Visayas would experience fine weather in most parts of the day, while rains thunderstorms are still possible. In Mindanao, cloudy skies will be felt although these are not yet due to the LPA.
No gale warnings have been raised as of now, as sea conditions may range from gentle to moderate.
