MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese national running a factory manufacturing fake alcohol solution was arrested Monday in Tondo, Manila.

Police arrested Robert Tiu Ten after the warehouse he was managing was found to be producing bogus alcohol.

The operation stemmed from a complaint of the neighborhood as well as barangay officials. The establishment was immediately closed and subjected to further investigation while the suspect and his employees were placed under the custody of Manila City Police Station 1.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas appealed to the public to be vigilant against “rogue opportunists” who are “eager to take advantage” of the COVID-19 crisis.

“Be extra careful with the fake items that are being sold. We might end up in danger rather than protecting our loved ones,” he said in a statement.
