LUCENA CITY—Quezon health authorities disclosed that the two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were from this city and nearby Sariaya town.
The Quezon Public Information Office (PIO), which announced the report, said the provincial government is assuring the safety of the rest of the residents of the province.
The PIO, on a Facebook post, said the provincial government was taking “appropriate steps.”
The provincial government, it said, “remains steadfast in its duty to protect” the people of Quezon against a disease that has defied quarantine, has no cure or vaccine, killed thousands in countries known for advanced health care systems and which experts feared was being transmitted by carriers with no symptoms.
With two new cases, Quezon now has a total of three positive COVID-19 patients. Two are from this city.
The first confirmed case, that of a 35-year-old man from here who had travelled to Thailand and Singapore, is still in a hospital but in stable condition and with no symptoms.
No details were given on the two new cases.
On Sunday the Integrated Provincial Health Office recorded another possible COVID-19 fatality that would bring the count to two if the death of the patients, initially tagged as PUI, or those with symptoms, were confirmed to be COVID-19-related.
The two patients, though considered as PUI, died without test results confirming if they were infected.
The health office has listed a total of 75 PUIs in the province.
