MANILA, Philippines — Around 120 families are living out on the streets in Pasay City after they were evicted from New Era Compound on March 12, just before Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine.
With no available public transportation and nowhere to go to, some 100 families have been camping out in makeshift shelters on Champaca and Protacio Streets, making social distancing impossible and putting them at risk of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Lian Cedra, 29, said she and the other residents did not expect the demolition would push through since everybody was preparing for the community quarantine.
In a video posted online, the sheriff told anxious residents that he understood their plight but added that he was only enforcing the court decision in favor of the title owner.
