Robredo’s office collects P22-M donation for coronavirus response

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has collected over P22 million from various donors to help the government in responding to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.

In a radio show on Sunday, Vice President Leni Robredo said the amount of donations collected was as of Saturday.

“Gulat na gulat kami kasi ang daming nag-respond… Gustong sabihin, ang dami nating mga kababayan ang gustong tumulong sa ating mga frontliners. Ganoon karami iyong nag-respond,” she said.

(We were shocked because a lot of people responded to our call… It means many Filipinos want to help our frontliners.)

She added that P5.9 million of the total amount came from the budget of the OVP.

According to Robredo, the funds will be used to buy personal protective equipment (PPEs) for frontliners and for other efforts to combat the pandemic.

She said her office has also been receiving requests for the provision of PPEs.

Aside from this, the OVP is also providing free shuttle service for health workers and frontliners in various parts of Metro Manila.
