LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — The student council and the faculty association of the Bicol University in this city are calling for donations from the public to help students now stranded in their boarding houses and dormitories following the enforcement of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Marc Louie Aler, information officer of the University Student Council (USC), said 220 students were unable to go home.
“Let us ease the burden of the families of these students by helping out in this difficult time,” Fernan Dematera, president of the Faculty Association, said.
Aler said cash donations would be used to buy food for the students but they also accept in-kind donations, preferably easy to cook non-perishable food, personal hygiene goods, and personal protective equipment.
Kristhel Joy Dalanon, a second-year student, was unable to go home after the Masbate government canceled all trips and prohibited the travel of public to and from the province.
“My parents gave me an allowance last Thursday but I also have savings that would last for a month, I think. I told them not to send me money this week because of some restrictions in Masbate and even here (Legazpi City),” Dalanon said.
Here are the details for those who wish to donate: For in-kind donations please contact Aler via mobile phone numbers 09306689472/09451042650; For monetary donations please send to SHANNINE M. SALAZAR, BU-USC Finance Officer, BDO account number 004250348639 or via GCash 09279416866.
