A Filipino-Chinese businessman and a local Filipino-Chinese company donated P100-million worth of medical equipment to the Philippines to help health workers in the fight against the coronavirus disease. /RTVM
MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino-Chinese businessman and a local Filipino-Chinese company donated P100-million worth of medical equipment to be used by medical workers at the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic in the Philippines.
According to a Facebook post by the Radio Television Malacañang, the donation included the following:
- 15,000 pieces of medical protective suits
- 40,000 pieces of medical gloves
- 5,184 pieces of disposable goggles
- 1,000 pieces of infrared thermometers
- 368,600 pieces of protective masks
- 5,000 pieces of disposable shoe covers
- 10,050 pieces of diagnostic kits
- one set of full-automated nucleic acid extraction system
- one piece of slan 96p time PCR (thermal cycler)
A Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane picked up the donations in Fuzhou, China on Saturday, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told INQUIRER.net.
The donors wished to stay anonymous, he added.

A turnover ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. It was attended by Sec. Lorenzana, Sen. Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Felimon Santos, Jr., and Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes.
The donation came as the Philippines sought to boost its medical supplies and test kits amid the rising number of cases of COVID-19, which first started in Wuhan, China in late 2019.
As of Saturday, there are 380 confirmed cases of the viral disease in the Philippines, including 25 deaths and 15 recoveries.
