MANILA, Philippines — Almost 2,000 jeepney drivers who are residents of Makati will receive P2,000 worth of financial aid following the suspension of mass transport services during the enhanced community quarantine placed over the entire Luzon.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay ordered the release of financial assistance to 1,826 registered members of Makati Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (JODA).
“We empathize with them and want to give them something to help tide them over for a few days. We know this is not enough, but I would like to assure everyone that more help is on its way,” Mayor Abby said in a statement on Saturday.
Jeepney drivers may avail assistance by applying online at https://bit.ly/MakatiFinancialAssistance; calling the hotlines for financial assistance designated for each barangay, or securing an application form from their barangay and returning the completed form.
Once the application is approved, the cash assistance will be delivered to the jeepney driver’s house.
Aside from jeepney drivers, Makati government also rendered financial aid to 5,952 tricycle drivers in the city.
