SAN PEDRO CITY –– A ‘person under investigation’ (PUI) for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has died, pending the test results, in Los Baños town in Laguna province.
The municipal health office on Saturday said the patient died Friday while undergoing treatment in a medical facility in the province.
The local government, however, did not provide other details about the patient.
Laguna health officer Rene Bagamasbad confirmed they have had cases of PUIs dying but with the test results for the COVID-19 still pending.
The latest data from the provincial health office showed 109 people isolated in homes or hospitals and 1,050 others, who have or are still undergoing the 14-day quarantine.
Health authorities have confirmed so far one case of the COVID-19 in Laguna in Sta. Rosa City.
Bagamasbad said government and even private hospitals in Laguna are congested with people showing symptoms of the virus.
He said a problem they face is the slow turnaround time of the confirmatory tests, which are being done at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
