Manila Water to impose ‘average’ billing due to suspended meter reading

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Water Company will implement average billing on water charges for its East Zone customers as meter and billing operations will be suspended for the duration of Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

“The current water bill of affected East Zone customers will be computed based on the average consumption for the past three months,” read the statement on Saturday.

The adjustment of water billing system was imposed to give consideration to the health of customers during the outbreak of the coronavirus disease.

Manila Water also advised that “any difference versus actual consumption will be reflected and charges will be adjusted on the customers’ next bill when Manila Water resumes read-and-bill operations.”

“Normal billing process will be observed when the government authorities officially confirm the end of the enhanced community quarantine,” the water firm added.
