Muntinlupa City now under 24-hour curfew to contain COVID-19 spread

MANILA, Philippines — Muntinlupa City is under a 24-hour curfew since Friday as the city government struggles with the problem of containing the community spread of the contagious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Under City Ordinance 2020-074, the city government said it will be strictly enforcing the strict house quarantine of residents as the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew being enforced under the ongoing Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine has been proven ineffective in containing the community transmission of COVID-19.

Excluded from the curfew however are medical frontliners or essential workers, a person from each household who has to go out to buy basic necessities, law enforcers and those who need to go outside for emergency purposes.

First time violators of the ordinance will be stripped off their city benefits such as scholarship grants program. Repeat violators will have their relief goods and other assistance from the city government withheld.

Violators will also have their violations recorded and their photographs taken by a barangay official, the city government said.
