PGH, 2 other institutions chosen as COVID-19 referral hospitals

MANILA, Philippines — Three hospitals in Metro Manila were designated as hospitals that would cater exclusively to 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients.

Health Secretary Rosette Vergeire on Friday announced that the three COVID-19 referral hospitals were UP-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) in Manila City, Dr. Jose M. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium in Caloocan City and Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City.

“Kung kayo po ay nakakaranas ng mga malalang sintomas at kayo po ay na-expose sa COVID-19 patient, maaari pong pumunta sa PGH para kayo ay ma-test at mabigyan ng kaukulang alaga,” she said in a virtual press conference.

(If you are experiencing severe symptoms and you were exposed to a COVID-19 patient, you may go to PGH to get tested and to get medical attention.)

In an earlier statement, the DOH said that UP-PGH has ceased to admit non-emergency cases to free up wards and rooms.

The Lung Center of the Philippines will likewise dedicate one wing with 40 beds for COVID-19 patients.

The Philippine Blood Center, meanwhile, will not be admitting any suspected COVID-19 patient. The DOH encouraged the public to continue donating blood to ensure adequate supply for severe and critical patients.
