LOOK: Manila’s street dwellers given aid amid COVID-19 threat

MANILA, Philippines — Manila’s street dwellers were given a temporary roof over their heads and food in their bellies by the city government as they continue to be exposed to the dangers of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a Facebook post from the Manila’s Department of Tourism and Culture on Thursday, social workers can be seen talking to street dwellers and taking their body temperatures as well.

“Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) reaches out to the homeless and street dwellers amid the pandemic,” the post read.

The street dwellers were later brought to a gymnasium within the city and were fed.

Luzon is currently under an enhanced community quarantine which strictly mandates the public to stay at home.

This as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country continue to rise.

As of date, the Philippines has so far reported 217 COVID-19 cases, 17 of which have died.
