Las Piñas’ plea to citizens: Stay at home, we’ll deliver relief at your doorsteps

MANILA, Philippines — Las Piñas City has asked its residents to stay home as it assured them that their local government will deliver relief right at their doorsteps while an “enhanced community quarantine” is in effect in the whole of Luzon.

It was not clear as of this posting why local residents trooped to the city hall on Wednesday. But the Las Piñas City government said it is upset over the incident.

“Ikinalulungkot namin ang nangyari kahapon kung saan ang ilang residente ng Las Piñas ay nagpunta sa City Hall,” read the statement from the city’s official Facebook page on Thursday.

The local government said residents could expect them to deliver the basic necessities to their houses and enjoined everyone to strictly observe the home quarantine.

“Hinihiling namin ang kooperasyon ng lahat ng mga residente ng Las Piñas na manatili sa inyong mga tahanan para sa inyong kaligtasan,” read the statement.

(We are asking for the cooperation of all residents of Las Piñas to remain in your houses for your welfare.)

Under the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine, only one person per household is allowed to go outside to buy basic needs.

To date, the country has 217 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease. Of this, five cases or 2.3 percent are detected in Las Piñas City.
