MANILA, Philippines – Fewer people ventured outside their homes four days after President Rodrigo Duterte’s order of a community quarantine in Metro Manila took effect.
Shorter queues for both vehicles and people were seen along several checkpoints on the eastern side of Metro Manila, particularly in the cities of Pasig, Marikina, and Antipolo.
While people were allowed to enter, they were subject to screening from health workers and police and military officers manning the checkpoints, including temperature scanning and interview on their purpose for leaving their residences.
It has been four days since Manila was placed in a community quarantine, and three days since it was upgraded to cover the whole of Luzon, as COVID-19 cases rose quickly. As of Thursday, the Department of Health said that there are 217 confirmed cases in the Philippines, 17 of which have died.
At least seven have recovered, while there are six patients who were allowed to go on a home quarantine mode.
