May declared ‘National Census Month’ as gov’t prepares for 2020 census

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 2020 as the “National Census Month”, less than two months before the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducts the 2020 census of population and housing.

In his Proclamation 928, Duterte stressed that the government is mandated to conduct a census of population and housing every 10 years with the primary objective of coming up with population figures at the national government level down to the barangays.

May 1 has been designated the census reference date.

Meanwhile, Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular 76, enjoining all sectors to cooperate and provide assistance to the PSA to ensure the successful conduct of the May 2020 census.

The issuance designates the PSA Board to act as the National Census Coordinating Board (NCCB) which will issue rules and regulations for the successful undertaking and completion of the May 2020 census.

“All national government agencies, government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, state universities, and colleges and their attached agencies and instrumentalities are hereby directed, and all local government units, as well as the private sector, are enjoined to render prompt and necessary assistance to the NCCB, the PSA and the census boards at the local level in the conduct of the census, including related promotion, information dissemination and program coordination, subject to applicable laws, rules and regulations,” Malacañang said.
