Negros Occidental mayors urged to speed up delivery of goods, food supplies amid COVID

BACOLOD CITY –– Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson called on all mayors in the province to ensure the speedy delivery of goods and food supplies amid the measures being implemented to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a memorandum, Lacson said mayors should refrain from setting up checkpoints at every town and city of Negros Occidental as there is already a province-wide lockdown.

“To ensure the general well-being of Negrenses and the steady supply of basic needs and commodities such as food and medicines, all local government units are directed to maintain the free flow of goods, equipment, and other essential products along the major roads and supply routes throughout Negros Occidental,” Lacson said.

He and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia on Tuesday met to discuss the measures to stop the spread of the virus.

Among the issues they discussed were how to ease the volume of traffic congestion in various checkpoints or borders in Bacolod.

They also discussed how to fast-track the passage of vehicles carrying food, medical supplies, and other essential goods, so as not to hamper vital services.
