CEBU CITY – Cebu recorded its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 after test results came out positive for a 65-year-old male “professional.”
Dr. Jaime Bernadas, director of the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7), said the patient is still confined at a hospital in Mandaue City and “is recovering and is about to be discharged” after further tests.
The patient, who has no history of foreign travel, is a Filipino and has made several local travels to different cities in Manila and in Mindanao.
Health officials are still looking at further details as to how the patient got infected with the virus.
“The patient was admitted last March 6 or 7 and his test was made on March 11 or 12,” Bernadas said.
He assured residents in Cebu that contact tracing and other processes have already been initiated even before the patient was still a person under investigation (PUI).
The patient’s family, he said, has already been informed about the situation.
An emergency meeting was immediately called by Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia following these developments.
